Miki Biasion drives Lancia Aurelia B20 GT at 1OOO Miglia 2024
Miki Biasion takes part in the 42nd edition of 1OOO Miglia aboard the 1955 Aurelia B20 GT. The Lancia brand is back to take part in the 1OOO Miglia, for the 70th anniversary of the Lancia D24 Spider victory.
“The brand Renaissance is becoming more and more of a concrete reality every day. And now, in an ideal way to pass the baton between the past and future, we are ready to impress all our fans once again by celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Lancia D24 spider victory at the 1954 1OOO Miglia. We can do so, thanks to the participation of Miki Biasion, one of the greatest rally drivers, at the wheel of a 1955 Aurelia B20 GT, one of the brand most beautiful cars. Lancia is finally back with its official team: on a journey crossing this beautiful country from Brescia to Turin, Viareggio, Rome and Bologna, the New LANCIA YPSILON EDIZIONE LIMITATA CASSINA will be the support vehicle for the vintage car, at the same time when the New Ypsilon goes on sale at Italian dealerships. We are ready for the next stage in our Renaissance journey, and there are still plenty more surprises to come…” stated Lancia brand CEO Luca Napolitano.
After a six-year break, Lancia is back to take part in the 1OOO Miglia, the historical re-enactment of the “most beautiful race in the world” as Enzo Ferrari loved to call it.
Its return has great symbolic value. 2024 marks the 70th anniversary of Lancia first victory in the 1954 1OOO Miglia, with a magnificent Lancia D24 Spider “barchetta” driven by Alberto Ascari. In 1954, the brand ended two years of playing a leading role in motorsports. One year earlier, Lancia won the Carrera Panamericana and Targa Florio, as well as taking pole position and the fastest lap at the Nürburgring 1000 km. Also in 1954, on top of its triumph in the 1OOO Miglia, it was victorious in the Rallye de Monte-Carlo, the Giro di Sicilia, Targa Florio and Porto Grand Prix, as well as making its Formula 1 debut.
This year, Lancia will line up a black 1955 Lancia Aurelia B20 GT, owned by Stellantis and currently kept at the Heritage Hub in Turin, where it features in the Style Marks themed area that hosts some of the ‘milestones’ that left their mark on the history of automotive design. Alongside one of Lancia sports cars par excellence, the New LANCIA YPSILON EDIZIONE LIMITATA CASSINA will be there as a support car. The first car of the brand new era will feature a body in Lancia Blue shade, a historic color for the brand. It will make its appearance around the same time the first deliveries are made to dealers throughout Italy, when customers will be able to drive the cars.
The 42nd 1OOO Miglia will take the start from Brescia one June 11, to return there on June 15, with stops in Turin, Viareggio, Rome, and Bologna.
Between 1927 and 1957, the 1OOO Miglia was a speed race, then from 1982 became a regularity race reserved for models that once ran in the earlier competitive events or were produced around the same time.
