Superb acoustics in the Carmen Würth Forum

One of the gems in the Carmen Würth Forum is the Reinhold Würth Hall. It is suitable for events that are to be held within a special setting. The high-quality event and interpreting technology means that a wide range of event formats can be staged without any problems. The sophisticated design, without the use of amplifiers, also allows for chamber music concerts to be held. “The concert hall offers superb acoustic conditions for unique concerts, making it the ideal home for the Würth Philharmonic,” says Prof. Dr. H. C. mult. Reinhold Würth, Chairman of the Foundation Supervisory Board of the Würth Group.

Suitability for top international concerts

French walnut wood provides the acoustics in the Reinhold Würth Hall. Panels with ultra-fine perforations absorb unwanted vibrations, while those with smooth surfaces relay the sound. Special acoustic chairs create a similar effect if there are any empty seats in the hall.

Concerts can be held without the need for amplification; the hall is suitable for both soloists as well as orchestras. Even if the room is fully occupied, the reverberation times stay within the ideal range.

The requirements demanded of the air conditioning system are clear: excellent climate control and fresh air supply, whilst simultaneously keeping noise levels to the minimum. That’s why fans from Ziehl-Abegg are at work in the basement, with a design based on knowledge gained from Nature. Peter Fenkl, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ziehl-Abegg, underlines this: “We are pleased about being able to contribute to the unique acoustics in the Reinhold Würth Hall with our efficient and ultra-quiet bionic fans.” The design of the fans contains features that developers at Ziehl-Abegg learned from the owl and the humpback whale. “We employ positive properties that Nature has fine-tuned and optimised over thousands of years,” explains Fenkl. This type of fan, with impressive variable room acoustics and versatility, is also used for the ventilation in the large hall.

The large event hall offers seating for 2500 and the Chamber Concert Hall, 600. The Würth Group has invested 60 million euros in creating the optimum conditions for the ultimate in cultural enjoyment. The hall was inaugurated in the summer of 2017.

Behind the scenes, two centrifugal fans (ZAbluefin) each with a diameter of 710 millimeters, operate in the basement of the chamber music hall. They move 29,000 cubic metres of air per hour. This configuration enabled the acoustic pressure in the air inlet duct to be halved to 58.1 dB (A). The ventilation system for the large event hall is located on the roof which also houses two centrifugal fans (ZAbluefin, 1,000 mm) that circulate 70,000 cubic metres of air per hour.
