Spectacular global launch event at Intermat 2018

The YANMAR booth in Hall 5A is full of people: customers, trade journalists, prospects, visitors, and even a bunch of curious competitors. All interested in the latest developments in diesel technology and in eager anticipation of the official, global launch of YANMAR’s brand new, high power industrial engines.White sheets

On stage: two objects covered under two big, white sheets. A huge video screen, counting down from 5 minutes to the very last second. Mr. Tomohisa Tao, Group Divisional Manager of the YANMAR’s Planning Division, briefly takes the stage, commemorating the milestone that we are witnessing today. Then, the speaker asks the audience to get ready for power up and starts the launch video.

3, 2, 1…

A pulsing beat accompanies the artistic video impression towards the ultimate countdown: 3, 2, 1… Mr. Peter Aarsen, President of YANMAR Europe B.V., and Mr. Shigeru Yoshikawa, Director and Member of the Board of YANMAR Co. Ltd., step forward and unveil the two hidden objects to the audience. Here they are: YANMAR’s two new, state-of-the-art diesel engines: 4TN101 (3.8L) and 4TN107 (4.6L).

10% down in fuel consumption

With their modern design and top-class performance, the brand new 4TN101 and 4TN107 engines inherit the tradition of the TNV family. They provide additional values to existing customers and will fulfill the needs of new customers in the Off-Road markets. Next to being extremely reliable, the engines’ fuel consumption is 10% less than similar displacement engines with the same output. This is achieved by incorporating the latest and most advanced technologies available on the market while simultaneously adhering to the same technical identity and quality targets which have made YANMAR a renowned brand all over the world. Needless to say that engines’ performance contributes to less environmental harm and lower operating costs.

Typical applications

Both the 4TN101 and 4TN107 deliver top-class power ratings, meeting the requirements of a wide variety of industrial fields, including construction, agriculture and material handling. The 4TN101 applies as the ideal engine to replace 4.5L class engines in their low and mid-power range. The 4TN107 with two-stage turbocharger aims to replace most of the 6-cylinder engines under the hood of 20 ton excavators and 200 hp tractors. In both cases the high power density (smaller size at the same power) and compactness result in great benefits for the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), by making more space available for aftertreatment.

Power up to 155kW in one giant leap

The 4TN101 (3.8L) and 4TN107 (4.6L) engines produce up to 155kW, while meeting EU Stage V emission regulations. They combine durability, reliability and robustness on one side with class leading low fuel consumption and high power density on the other. The smaller 4TN101 lines up in the 55 to 105 kW power range with torque up to 550 Nm, while its bigger brother, 4TN107, peaks at power ratings ranging from 90 to 155 kW and torque exceeding 805 Nm. In this way, customers can continue to operate their vehicles trouble-free, even at high-altitude, low-temperature, or working at light load. Production is planned to start from the beginning of 2019 onwards.

Tripling the power range

The Intermat launch truly marks a milestone, since YANMAR has now tripled its power range from 56 kW to 155kW in one giant leap for the first time in 20 years. With the addition of the two new engines YANMAR’s line-up of diesel engines has expanded, placing our company into the heart of the high-power diesel engine market.
